The activities in the FieldFact project cover the following topics:

Studies and assesments

The activity Studies and Assessments aims at the inventory of the current situation regarding GNSS use in the agricultural community, the characterisation of current applications in order to determine the “priority applications”, and the determination of requirements for these priority applications.

Stakeholder consultation

One of the main concepts of the FieldFact project is the participatory approach that was used to involve stakeholders through the FieldFact stakeholder platform. Through the participation of the relevant key stakeholder groups in the project, a base is created to implement the requirements and recommendations of European stakeholders regarding GNSS use in agriculture into the projects objectives and activities. In order to implement this approach stakeholder meetings are organized throughout Europe and an Advisory Stakeholder Council is founded.

Application development

In order to support the FieldFact promotion and awareness campaign, through demonstrator application development, a set of GNSS demonstrators is developed that implemented so-called "priority applications". Following the directions of the stakeholders platform and the results of the Critical Analysis Phase, two demonstrators are developed: The Low End Demonstrator (LED) and the High End Demonstrator (HED).

Spatial data

The use of GNSS relies to a large extent on the availability and use of correct geographical information. This was considered so important that a separate work package on spatial data issues was defined to examine the spatial data issues related to GNSS application in the agricultural community.

Testing and training

In order to guarantee proper functioning of GNSS applications it is of high importance that applications are tested and that application users are trained for proper use of the applications. The activity testing & training concentrated on the design of appropriate testing procedurs for GNSS applications and on the development of training programs for different groups of GNSS users.

Promotion

The FieldFact promotion campaign focussed on the creation of awareness on GNSS use. Three GNSS events are organized by the consortium and numerous events and fairs are attended. Major promotion instruments were demonstrations using the developed demonstrator applications, presentations on events, applied and scientific fora and publications in various media (agricultural magazines, web sites, scientific papers).

Results Analysis

As a final activity, the project is evaluated in the results analysis. Results are compared with the stated small, medium and long-term objectives. Conclusions are drawn on the effectivity of the project and recommendations are made for future work.
